Tonight’s guest is Jan Dolphin, who has written a charming and useful new guidebook to Paris, Paris From the Heart. The guide includes an introduction full of tips to the visitor along with five booklets, each covering a walking tour of a specific area of interest. Each booklet concludes with a list of restaurants nearby. Jan speaks of how and why she wrote this guide. She also includes great photos and past illustrations of Paris.
Tonight’s program is an eclectic mixture of new and old French music from many countries. We start with a new collection of French reggae by artists from France, Nigeria, Réunion, and Bénin from Radio France Internationale. In the second half of the program, various artists sing their versions of standard French songs.
Thanks to Louise Dillery who subs for Caryl tonight and M.J. Gilmore who is the engineer.
Tonight recalls the Liberation of Paris with music of the period and an eye-witness account by Louise, who was there celebrating and taking cover behind a statue of a lion, as Nazi snipers made a last stand.
