Tonight was the debut of the excellent, long awaited second Dubchek album “Far East End”; the cool new “Unify on the Hi-Fi” EP from Prince Blanco; and the new world-wise “Blues Sauce” album from Jaja Matsimela.
Tonight was the debut of the new album from the Professor (Harrison Stafford) entitled “Madness”. The Groundation frontman came up with the “Madness” project while in Jamaica…after taking a pilgrimage to Jerusalem. A fantastic album which includes Leroy “Horsemouth” Wallace, U-Roy, Obeah Denton, Flabba Holt, and others… Also new tonight were two new releases coming from DJ Perch: a new Deep Root single featuring Abassi All Stars and Vibronics, plus a Universal Egg single from an upcoming album by Fire In the Hole. And because the local weather has drastically warmed up in the last couple of days, a Dub Club Tiki Lounge set seemed the order of the day. This was, among other things, a perfect excuse for DJ Baby Swiss to indulge his Shiina Ringo obsession with a brand-new Tokyo Jihen big-band track(!) Yes, you read that right, and the release date is this show’s airdate, 5/11! The Specials, Caro Emerald, The Pepper Pots, Martin Denny, Al Kealoha Perry (unrelated to Lee) and Full Moon Scientist are among the other artists who figured into the proceedings, and Mutant Frogs brought up the rear.
A special show tonight as we aired part 1 of the 5th annual “Around the World in 20+ Dubs” (originally aired 4-29 on Echo Beach at WLUW-FM, Chicago). Also tonight we featured new music from Springline Records and Dubmission Records, along with new selections from Liquid Stranger, Bedouin Soundclash, Professor, and Jamaram. And, in the final hour, DJ Baby Swiss did a “Roots of Dub” archive set.
Mixing it up again in the Echo Chamber: plenty of new dubs, a bit of classic roots, and more great stuff. Brand new music from Lee “Scratch” Perry (the Bill Laswell produced “Rise Again”); Youssou N’dour, Citizen Sound (feat. Melodic & Jahdan Blakkamore), Eugene Grey, Pale Rider, Maria Tanase, Karsh Kale, and AB2G.
Hour 3’s DJ Baby Swiss set commemorated this past Saturday’s (May 21) non-end-of-the-world, complete with track titles like, “Oh No, Again”, “7 Ways to Sunday”, “One Fine Day”, “Missing Brazilians”, and of course “Spirits in the Material World”… twice.
