What a joy to have Carrie Elkin:http://www.carrieelkin.com in studio to celebrate her fifth album, Call it My Garden. We also heard music from Exene Cervenka’s new album, gave tickets away to Pierre Bensusan at the Cedar, and got Lynn’s morning started right with some highly-danceable Quintron Miss Pussycat in advance of Mardi Gras.
We started the morning with Cibo Matto, as all of our minds are on Japan right now. I have since learned Cibo Matto will reunite for a special benefit show in NYC, with other great artists on the bill, to send aid to the Japanese people. Thanks for the great calls and suggestions for more music by artists from Japan.
The Roe Family Radio Round-up came at 11am this morning, due to a little extra set-up time. While we waited for our weekly dose of excellent music and corny jokes from the great local band, we heard upcoming releases from The Sounds and local artist Kevin Steinman, and this incredible new set from Crammed Discs: Tradi-Mods vs. Rockers. It’s artists such as Andrew Bird and Megafaun, putting their stamps on compositions from the Congolese electro-percussive groups such as Konono No. 1. This set is making my spring!
Thanks to Ted Allison from KBEM for coming by this first pledge drive edition of PWB. It was fun having him in studio! And a rather chaotic studio it was…also thanks to Nancy, Michelle Alimoradi, Pat H., all the great folks volunteering, and the great folks joining KFAI as members! The music we dialed to included more from the Tradi-Mods vs. Rockers set, and new ASKA, Los Amigos Invisibles, and Jessica Lea Mayfield. Good times.
