Melissa Olson (she /hers) is a writer and producer of independent public media. She is the producer and host of Sanctuary: Arts & Activism, Mondays at 1pm.
Melissa is the co-managing editor the MinneCulture program at KFAI Fresh Air Community Radio producing short stories, audio documentaries, a podcast, and in-studio concerts.
Prior to her role as editor, Melissa produced a number of short stories for MinneCulture. Melissa received a Page One – Third Place prize from the MN Society for Professional Journalists for her work on a short story called the An Unvarnished, Unholy Tour of Franklin Avenue.
Melissa is a writer and producer of long-form audio documentaries. Her award-winning audio documentary Stolen Childhoods (52 mins) was produced in collaboration with KFAI. The documentary aired on KFAI in November of 2016. Stolen Childhoods tells the story of four women each of whom had been adopted out of their birth communities, and the impacts of displacement within their families. Melissa was the recipient of a Page One – Second Place Award for Special Projects in Radio from Minnesota Society for Professional Journalists for her work on Stolen Childhoods.
