Local indie rock six-piece Carbon Handshake will be performing live on KFAI's own Live From Studio 5! on Wednesday, August 27th, from 10 PM to midnight. The band will be playing for two hours, promoting their soon-to-be-released 5-track EP, as well as their previously released freshman album, A Dive Right. Carbon Handshake is a promisingly fresh presence in the Twin Cities music scene, quickly gaining popularity and increasing their fan base as they release more original music and book a progressing number of performances at local venues.
The band consists of Joe McNeill (vocals, guitar, piano, ukulele), Andy Dean (guitar, piano, synths), Mack Scott (bass, synths), Eric Cafferty (drums), Clancy Brady (vocals, piano, synths, ukulele), and Andy Hanna (piano, guitar, synths, trumpet). Joe, Mack, and Andy Dean created the band when they were twelve years old, setting out with the intent of having a much heavier, rock-oriented style. Their sound has evolved ever since, with each member contributing a unique musical expression from a massive array of influences.
Their new EP, set to be released later this fall, has been described by the band as having a more minimalistic sound and upbeat pace than their previous album. The EP will retain the essential elements present in A Dive Right, while exploring new genres and related sounds in the band’s songwriting process.
Be sure to tune in to Live From Studio 5! on Wednesday, August 27th, to hear Carbon Handshake perform from 10 PM to midnight. Two tracks from A Dive Right, “Kids Are On Their Own” and “Circumstance”, are available to listen to below.
