Since our birth in 1978, KFAI has always been growing, adapting and changing. From humble beginnings in a church belfry to our current home in the heart of the Cedar-Riverside area, we have worked to provide a voice to underserved communities while building bridges of understanding and joy between the people that make the Twin Cities the special place it is. As we’ve grown, we’ve expanded our reach to share those voices worldwide and become a window for the world. We’ve seen our listen- and member-bases grow from a handful of South Minneapolis diehards to radio-curious folks as far away as France, Australia and the Horn of Africa.

The past few months have taught us that we’re able to keep our communities connected even as our staff and volunteers respect the urgent needs of physical distancing. During this time we have explored new ways to allow our program hosts to broadcast from home, record high-quality shows in advance and connect to their audience in new ways.
We’ve expanded our podcast and Mixcloud offerings to provide even more music, news and information than we can fit into a 168-hour broadcast week. We’ve explored how to best continue that expansion into HD radio, video, streaming and whatever else lies around the corner.

With your support we’ve come far in 42 years. And it’s with your continued support that we will face and adapt to new challenges ahead of us
Together, we’ll keep KFAI here for the new generation of music lovers and social changemakers emerging here in the Twin Cities and beyond.
