Minnesota American Indian Day

KFAI will celebrate American Indian Day with a special day of programming on Wednesday, May 1, from 6am to midnight. The station is looking for dynamic live programming – produced by Indigenous people - that explores the culture, history, and lived experiences of Native Americans. The 2019 American Indian Day theme will be Turtle Island, Voices Rising.  Program submissions are encouraged to consider this theme within the context of proposed program abstract. KFAI would like to invite station volunteers, community groups and community members to participate in this year’s programming. Hip Hop Architecture embodies the collective creative energies of one of the dominant cultural movements of our time. Hip-Hop Architecture’s ideals have primarily been tested by a loosely organized group of pioneering individuals, each using hip-hop as a lens through which to provoke and evoke architectural form. Over the last five decades, hip-hop’s primary means of expression –deejaying, emceeing, b-boying, and graffiti – have become globally recognized creative practices, and each has significantly impacted the urban built environment. The Owning Up: Racism and Housing Exhibit has moved! If you missed the exhibit at the Hennepin History Museum, its new home is in the Sabathani Community Center gallery space. On May 2nd, Sabathani Community Center is hosting an opening event for the exhibit in its new home and will also be raising funds for the center. Sabathani provides essential resources to the community and all proceeds from this event will go towards their programs.
