Reading with Trisha Low and Stephanie Young

November 3, 2019 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Join Moon Palace Books at 4 pm on Sunday, November 3, for a reading featuring Trisha Low and Stephanie Young.

Trisha Low is the author of The Compleat Purge (Kenning Editions 2013). She earned a BA at the University of Pennsylvania and an MA in Performance Studies at New York University. She lives in the East Bay in California.

In her latest collection, Socialist Realism, Trisha Low moves West, her journey motivated by her desire to arrive “somewhere better”—someplace utopian, like revolution; or safe, like home; or even clarifying, like identity. Instead, she faces the end of a relationship, a family whose values she has difficulty sharing, and America’s casual racism, sexism, and homophobia. Seeking answers in art, films, philosophy, and literature, Low attempts to reconcile her yearnings with her radical politics and begin the next chapter of her life, asking: Do our quests to fulfill our deepest wishes propel us forward, or keep us trapped in familiar dead ends?

Stephanie Young lives and works in Oakland, California. Her books of poetry and prose include It’s No Good Everything’s Bad, Ursula or University, Picture Palace, and Telling the Future

Her latest book, Pet Sounds, is at once a book of confessional economics, music criticism disguised as poetry, and a complicated coming-out story. Working from the sticky interface of property and sex and written under the shadow of urban development, these poems take up the question of passing and everything that gets lost in narrow definitions of family and romantic love. Pet Sounds pulses with the pleasures and grief of what it means to make a home inside structures that don’t fit.
