December 2014 Fubar Omniverse Archives

Remembering KFAI's Alice Phoenix, host of the great late night rock show "New Day Rising," the larger-than-life sounds of sax player Bobby Keys, and Small Faces/Faces keyboard artist Ian McLagan. Plus two, count 'em, two in-studio visits, from Walter Salas-Humara and Jonathan Rundman in hour 1, and David Alderson, Nicole Navratil, and Mark Hoornbeek from local group Sonic Love Child.

Hour 1: Big sounds from small instruments: Live tracks from different eras by mandolin whizzes The Mando Boys, ukulele monster Jake Shimabukuro, and shimmering Finnish kantele/vocal ensemble Kardemimmit.

Hour 2: Vinyl from around the world, in tribute to the KFAI-sponsored Worldwide Discotheque night at Club Jager and KFAI's Vinyl Voices project. Vinyl DJs have good taste, and arms like Popeye from lugging all that vinyl!

Hanging out on Boxing Day. Favorite artist submissions and finds in 2014, with a brand-new submission to start the show, and a salute to the West Bank and its treasure trove of calling cards by Habib Koite.
