The bag was full of new releases tonight! From the 2 singles by Chronixx and Jesse Royal & Inner Circle on the “Tenement Yard” riddim, to the sweet new lovers rock “Retrospect EP” from Toian, and the skankin’ hot new EP from the Wooddrops, the place was grooving in a upbeat stylee… Once the party was started, the new tracks just kept flowing — from Empress Nelly, Rocky Dawuni, Reggae Roast featuring Earl 16, the legendary Keith and Tex, Blend Mishkin & Roots Evolution, Khalilah Rose, Asante Amen, and more… In the 2nd half, Swiss laid down a set of classic Jamaican 45s from the likes of Tristan Palma, Leroy “Horsemouth” Wallace, Jackie Mittoo, Earl Zero, Tommy McCook, and others.

In celebration of National Poetry Month, we presented the annual “WORD BEAT I POWA” dub poetry/poetry/spoken word special. Special items included street poet Vernon Johnson reciting a poem on the street and Dr. StrangeDub’s own “monkey-ized” mix of Mutabaruka’s “The Monkey (Speaks His Mind)”. Besides Muta, the dub poets included Linton Kwesi Johnson, Jazzmin Tutum, Ginsu, Jean Binta Breeze, Ras Takura, Desmond Faada Johnson, Haji Mike, Tomlin Ellis, Oku Onuora, Malachi Smith, and Benjamin Zephaniah. More poetry, toasting, and spoken word from Jack Kerouac, Bill Laswell & Nicole Blackman, e.g. bailey, U-Roy, Paul Bowles, William S.
