July 2012 ECHO CHAMBER Archives

Another night filled with tons of new music, some classic dubs, a cool summer mix, and some sounds from outer space (to commemorate World UFO day on 7/2). Brand new sounds from YT (the new Revolution Time album with Mungo’s Hi-Fi); Easy Star All Stars (from the upcoming “Thrillah” album); Dubtonic Kru; Abschalter; Longman; Negritage; Bigote; Mista Majah P (the “Four More Year” single); Mutant Frogs; and Hollie Cook (dubbed by Prince Fatty). The summer mix this week was an excerpt from Moshi Kamachi’s Wordsound-heavy “A Tale From Alpha to Omega” mix (originally done for the Chilldown Period website).

Tonight we had the great pleasure to debut the new Echo Chamber – Around the World In Dub – Vol. 1 & 2 album! That’s right. After months of tracking down some great music and asking artists to join the project, collecting and mastering the tunes, and some hours on artwork, the album was officially released on Bandcamp.com on July 5th. On the program tonight we played the entire Volume 1 of this compilation album, featuring: Bandulu Dub vs Nahuatl Sound System, Leah Rosier, Zion Train, Ras Amerlock, Dubmatix, Dubsalon, Citizen Sound, McPullish, Eating Betty, Madtone, Funk Dub Division, and Mutant Frogs. But the vol. 1 of the Echo Chamber album filled just the middle hour of the 3 hour show; there was so much more… This included the new Musical Road In Dub album from Najavibes (mixed by Mad Professor and Gussie P); the excellent “Temptation” album from Ras Sis Highness; Sir Oliver Skardy’s “Mambo Nero” single; “Delayrium” from Jah Acid Dub, and the Italian Dub Community Showcase – V.4.

A very big show tonight for at least three reasons: tonight was our annual “Lunar Lunatics” special commemorating the first moon landing on July 20, 1969; it was my wife Kerry-Ann’s birthday; and we had a bunch of excellent new releases. Starting things off was the new “Pull It Up!” album from those guys at the Elephant House, the Overproof Soundsystem. Following this was the new “A New Day” album from Jah Marnyah; the cool “Su Bandu” album from Ratapignata and new releases from Dr. Mooch, Ras Sis Highness, Najavibes, Dub Rifles, and Bunny Rugs (the single “Land We Love: Jamaica”). Our “Lunar Lunatics” included such gems as “One Giant Dub for Mankind” (Tassilli Players), “A Bunch Of Guys About to Turn Blue” (Drain), “Apollo 11” (Mutant Hi-Fi), “Fly Me to the Moon” (Frank Sinatra), “Walking on the Moon/Walking on the Dub” (Dubxanne), “Mars Invasion” (Soulsteppers), “Star Dub” (Dr. Echo), and “Destination Moon” (Channel U).

Another Echo Chamber brimming with great music new and old… Old school meets new school in two new releases: Dubblestandart & Marcia Griffiths with “Holding You Close” (an EP containing 7 mixes) and The Orb & Lee Scratch Perry on the new album “Observer In the Star House”. Also new tonight: Jimmy Cliff’s aclaimed new “Rebirth” album; the mighty Dub Syndicate with the new “Special King Size Dub” release (Echo Beach); Overproof Soundsystem’s “Pull It Up!”; and a new album in the Lovers Rock series from Tuskani. More recent releases from The Dynamics, Dr. Mooch, Ratapignata, Groundation, Anna Gemina, Dennis Bovell, Dub Rifles, and Sonora Irreal. On top of this we did a 5 track set from Springline Records which included the fine new release from Ras Sis Highness, plus David Powell Experience, Hassle, Yabass Yaba Radics, and The Manor.
