October 2016 Rhythm and Grooves Archives

Thanks to Yonci Jameson for sitting in today with a fine program of vocal and instrumental jazz from masters such as Milt Jackson, Coltrane & Hartman, Abbey Lincoln, Etta Jones, Charles Lloyd, Monty Alexander, and others.

Wisconsin-born, NYC-based drummer Matt Slocum phoned in today to talk about his new album, Trio Pacific, Vol. 1, and his upcoming gig at Studio Z. I played two tracks from the album, as well as music from organist Rueben Wilson, the Jay McShann Big Band, the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, Mississippi, Cal Tjader, Sergio Pereira, and Joshua Breakstone. The Leigh Kamman 45 of the week was Ill Wind, backed by Drumn Negrita, by the George Shearing Quintet.
