October 2015 Rhythm and Grooves Archives

Today I had Nachito Herrera and Shelley Quiala of the Ordway as guests, talking about the coming performance of Pedrito Martinez at the Ordway on the 18th.

I had two guests today: Yohannes Tona came by to spin a tune and talk about his upcoming gig at the Icehouse, and Tony See came by to talk about a folk/rock group of his called Veretta. I also played tunes by Kyle Ashe, Hank Mobley, Cecile McLaren Salvant, Randy Bernsen, Kai & JJ, Laura Caviani, Joey de Francesco, and Antonio Adolfo. TheCentennial Celebration was Meditation by Frank Sinatra.

There was a bit of a Halloweenish theme to today's program, though Bassist Graydon Peterson was my guest. We talked about about the new CD by the Graydon Peterson Quartet, entitled Duets. It features different combinations of the quartet performing Peterson's compositions. We played two of the tracks, as well as music from Jimmy Smith and Wes Montgomery, Ike Quebec, John Coltrane, Kelly Rossum, How Birds Work, John Pizzarelli, Claudia Acuna, King Pleasure, and Rik Wright's Fundamental Forces.
