Jacquie "Lady J" Maddix is a broadcast veteran with 20 years of experience in radio and television. Her background includes work as an on-air personality at KFAI Radio in Minneapolis, Minnesota as well as on-camera exposure at SPNN, a cable television company in St. Paul Minnesota. Ms. Maddix has also worked in news as a producer, assistant producer and production assistant at CBS's Minnesota affiliate station, WCCO TV. In 1999, Lady J started a record label, Diamond Blue Records to promote and preserve the female side of the blues story and produced a release called "Hit The Big Time" to introduce female talent Grana' Louise to the world. Since that time, Ms. Maddix herself has stepped on stage and is now hosting a live open stage/open mic night called the Diamond Blue Revue to showcase Minnesota's music talent. She is also featured on a 2006 CD release called "Speaking Aged and Mellow" with her "full bodied" treatment of spoken word lyrics over live music, available of course on Diamond Blue Records. Lady J is also a contributing writer to the Twin Cities Blues News and to Minnesota Blues on Stage (www.mnblues.com), an WC Handy award-winning internet service. An interview with Jacquie can also be found on Lea Gilmore's "It's a Girl Thang", an internet service that promotes women behind the scenes in the blues. Lady J believes in the magic of the blues and truly feels that music can heal. Her offical title on the air is: High Priestess of the Full Bodied Blues. To her, life is all about the alchemy of music, magic and love!

Lady J & the Full Bodied Blues Band can be found EVERY Monday at Shaw's Bar & Grill, 1528 University Ave NE-Mpls with the Diamond Blue Revue, featuring an open stage night of blues, jazz, R&B, funk and soul music. Showtime: 8:30pm-12:30am.

In May 2009, Lady J took another step forward by creating her own blues/funk band called "Black Cat Boogie" featuring the lady on vocals and shakeree. Yes, that is a world music instrument commonly associated with reggae, but as Lady J puts it: even blues has an African root. Come out to Johnny Baby's in St. Paul on Wednesday nights and see how well the shakeree fits in with the blues! Johnny Baby's, located at 981 University Avenue in St. Paul. Sit in with Black Cat Boogie and Lady J on Wednesdays from 7:00pm - 11:00pm.

6/30/2009 Rollin' and Tumblin'

It's with regret that I announce the passing of Blue Loon recording artist Mike "The Hook" Deutsch. The piano man succumbed to cancer on 6/24/09. Instead of thinking of him as having died, I prefer to say: He's taking his place in that heavenly blues band, playing with his friends who got there before he did: Dave Ray, Rick O'Dell, Joel Johnson, Will Donicht, Percy Strother, Milwaukee Slim, Andy Bailey, Steve Killer Kilbride, Mike Nichols, Lady Blue & Sonny Rodgers. Today's show featured music that Mike recorded with some of those friends.

The jazz-a-ma-tazz had me for this show! The music stayed pretty much on the fine line between blues and jazz.
