Jazz is an evolving language with deep roots and sprawling branches. Representing each root and branch is a unique culture that amalgamated with the whole of it. Jazz Diaspora is reflection of this family tree loosely called Jazz.
It will embrace rich musical traditions that influenced jazz and that jazz has influenced. You will hear Central and South-American music like bossa-nova, tropicalia, chicha and cumbia; West and South African music like highlife, afro-beat, township music, kwela, mbaqanga, and jive; Caribbean music like reggae, calypso, mambo, boogaloo, cubop, son cubano and soca; soul, hip-hop, funk, R&B and electronic; European and even extraterrestrial expressions of jazz. And of course, you will hear those cultures expressed in America's jazz.
Come celebrate America's music in the world, and the world's music in America, with me, Cory Washington, every Saturday from Noon to 1:30, during the Saturday Morning Jazz block on KFAI.
