Salmon Woman Performance to Benefit American Indian Prison Project

On Saturday, August 23, 2014 at the Ordway in St. Paul, Jeri Brunoe will portray five characters in a one woman show that invokes the transforming nature of the Salmon.

Salmon Woman” weaves together song, dance and narration to tell the story of growing up on an Indian reservation.  Brunoe is a tribal citizen of the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs, based in Warm Springs, Oregon.    Among the highlights of her acting career was a role in a TV drama, "Buffalo Soldier," alongside Hollywood star Danny Glover.

Glover will introduce Brunoe and  "Salmon Woman" in the show's sole St. Paul performance, which is a benefit for the American Indian Prison Project Working Group.   The goal of the organization is to change federal legislation that denies incarcerated American Indian adults and juveniles access tot heir spiritual practices.

Jeri Brunoe talked with KFAI's Yvette Howie, who asked her if "Salmon Woman" is her life story.
