As part of the New Deal, the Works Progress Administration, or They were scared, poor, on the dole, and desperate for work. From 1935-1943, 250 Minnesotans participated in the great social experiment called the Federal Writers Project. Some were former newspapermen, some were casual fictioneers. But most of them were just ordinary job hunters who jumped on the WPA bandwagon to research and write one of the best books on Minnesota today: The WPA Guide to Minnesota.
