Following up on Democracy Now with a politically charged set featuring local singer/songwriter Larry Long, Prince along with Cornel West's brand new CD; I jumped into previews of four solid choices for musical entertainment of a global nature. Thurs. Tuvan throat singers, Huun Huur Tu at the Cedar. Malian desert rebel rockers, Tinariwen - at the Cedar as well - kick off Friday's choice of three stellar options. The Walker Art Center features two alto sax masters with East Indian - Carnatic roots mixing in American jazz stylings. They'll be in the McGuire Theater Friday evening performing Kinsmen-Svajanam. And finally, Friday at Orchestra Hall, Cuban timba band, Tiempo Libre, make their first local stop and collaborate with the MN Orchestra on a Rumba Sinfonica.
