Freewheelin' with Jackson Buck - Every Wednesday afternoon (2:00-4:00).

Tune in Wednesday afternoons at 2:00 as Jackson Buck presents Freewheelin’, a free-flowing roots musical journey through the years of recorded history featuring the sounds of Americana, rockabilly, blues, alt-country, country swing, folk, Cajun & zydeco, old-time, jug band, bluegrass and more.

No matter how it's labeled, this great music all falls under the roots umbrella. Jackson not only plays historical tracks from days gone by, but weaves the past into the present by including modern interpreters of the roots genre.

Ron and Jean, late of KFAI's Radio Rumpus Room, filled in for Jackson this week, as he was otherwise engaged in working out the terms of his Work Release arrangement. (Though in fairness the substitute hosts did not get independent confirmation of that claim by anyone, much less the regular host. So maybe you should just pretend we didn't say that.) -- Ron and Jean

Angie Pykonen of KFAI's In Your Ear was my guest this afternoon.

We gave away ticket to the Dave Alvin & The Guilty Women show coming up at Bunkers, Friday, August 27th.

Played a mini-tribute to drummer Richie Hayward, who passed on last week. He's best known for his long history of work with Little Feat, but also played with many, many artists thru the years.

Click "MP3" or "Real Audio" to connect with the archive of the show. Please note, the show starts at 4 minutes 10 seconds into the file. Otherwise, you'll start off listening to old news…and who wants old news?

If you want to listen to the archive of this week's show, click "Listen Now". The show actually starts at 3 minutes 55 seconds into the playback. Before that, it's old news.

We had quite a few special guests on the show this week. Paul Metsa stopped by in the 2:00 hour to chat about the reunion gig for his old band, Cats Under The Stars. He also brought along a 45 record they made of "Louie, Louie" and another track recorded at Famous Dave's Bluesfest in 2007.

In the 3:00 hour, John David and The Jerks stopped in and play 4 songs live in the studio. They are having a CD Release Party at my Freewheelin' First Friday music series at the 331 Club on Friday, August 6.
