Minnesotans are needed to attend, and/or provide testimony to, a town hall-style meeting with Federal Communications Commission (FCC) representatives, Thursday, August 19th, from 6pm to 9pm.

Main Street Project, Free Press and the Center for Media Justice are co-hosting a public hearing on the "Future of the Internet" in Minneapolis on August 19th. The event will feature FCC Commissioners Michael Copps and Mignon Clyburn, and Secretary of State Mark Ritchie.

Members of the community are invited to attend and share their comments with the FCC Commissioners.

Main Street Project is also looking for community members who represent various constituencies (homeless people, communities of color, working families, low-income people, students, immigrants, LGBTQI, people with children) and key anchor institutions (libraries, schools, workforce centers) to give short testimony, three or four minutes in length. For people who are able to give testimony, a spokesperson training will be offered, in advance of the event.

The meeting will focus on the FCC's vital responsibility to protect the open internet and to foster universal broadband access across the country. You may have heard about recent court cases and efforts of phone and cable company lobbyists, which can inhibit the agency's ability to achieve these goals. The Minneapolis meeting is a way to remind the FCC that the public must be heard in debate right now.
