Recent Sundance picks, some of the hottest flicks from the Indy film circuit and the hilarious “Big Man Japan” are among the film treats offered by this year’s Beyond Borders Film Festival. From Wednesday, March 25 through Sunday, March 29, the Beyond Borders Film Festival will showcase a variety of films focused on improving international cross-cultural understanding at the recently renovated Parkway Theater at 4814 Chicago Ave. South in Minneapolis.
The five-day festival will open with two days of films and performances by and about Native Americans, and will feature a live drumming circle and dancers. Well-known advocate and former vice presidential candidate Winona LaDuke, local film producer and community activist Sydney Beane, award-winning “Mohawk Girls” and “Club Native” writer/director Tracey Deer, “Older than America” director Georgina Lightening and Minnesota filmmaker Missy Whiteman will make special appearances. A Buddhist Wisdom program is slated for Friday.
The Festival’s finale will include the critically acclaimed film “Sugar.” And the directors of the film, Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, will make guest appearances. Below is the film schedule, which is being finalized, with more films to be added. Check the Web site for final details at www.beyondbordersfilmfestival.com
