  • Catrina Huynh-Weiss left Saigon, Viet Nam by helicopter out of the U.S. Embassy on April 30, 1975 with her parents and older sister. They were re-settled in Bloomington, MN where she and her two sisters grew-up in a bi-racial, bi-cultural, and bi-religious household. She recently moved back to Minneapolis but has yet to return to her place of birth. During a recent Veterans For Peace event she shared her story.  It was featured on the April 30th edition of KFAI's Morning Blend.

     

  • Wednesday afternoon, approximately 1,500 protesters convened in downtown Minneapolis for a march down Washington Avenue and across the Hennepin Avenue bridge.  The march was organized by Black Lives Matter Minneapolis in response to the death of Freddie Gray who died while in police custody in Baltimore on April 12.  Minneapolis Police blocked traffic for the demonstrators, but otherwise had little interaction with the group and made no arrests.  KFAI's Ryan Dawes takes us on-location to the march.

  • Do not be alarmed if KFAI’s broadcast signal seems a bit weaker than normal today.
     
    Components of our transmitting equipment have been sent out for a long-due reconditioning. This means KFAI has been broadcasting under reduced power from early Friday evening through late Monday evening. “Reduced power” means a smaller, more sharply defined coverage area. Translation: What you hear will sound just as strong, but the station's signal will likely die out sooner than you expect it to.
