Mayyadda Brings Black Girl Magic to the Morning Blend

Local singer-songwriter Mayyadda had a moment when she knew she had to give music a shot. Coming out of her senior year, she knew that her immigrant mother had done everything she could to get her ahead in life. But as she watched school friends go off to jobs in finance, she knew it wasn't what her soul needed. So, she started recording--and we're better off for it.

She just released an EP called eightynine, where her acoustic guitar picking melds with deep bass synths and beatboxed rhythms for her voice to float over.

She joined Dave Roberts and Xan Holston on the Monday Morning Blend to talk about what motivates her to make her music and to bless them with three songs: "BlackGirlMagic," "Mississippi," and the anthemic "Black is Beautiful."
