Dakota Dave To Celebrate - Spinning "The Good Old Good Ones" One Last Time

This Thursday (January 19th) at 10am, tune in as Dakota Dave Hull ends his program's 20 year run at KFAI.  This promises to be a landmark moment in community radio as one of KFAI's most recognizable voices hangs up his headphones.

As Dave said when he announced this decision in December:

"I'm finding myself with less time these days and the last thing in the world I want to do is "phone it in," as they say. I've tried very hard to create a quality show that can't be pigeonholed. I've tried, for example, not to repeat a song for 12 months after I play it, and I spend a fair amount of time each week listening and deciding what to play and what goes together. My heart will always be in traditional folk music, but there are so many interesting branches I don't think I'd ever run out of great performances.

Folk music is in good hands. Young people are embracing the good stuff. Old-Time music, Blues, Bluegrass, Jazz in all its many colors, and ethnic music from all over the place are in better shape than they’ve been in years.

January 19th will mark my last show. After that I'll still be around and I'll still be supporting KFAI as much as I can. And I'll be listening to the good old good ones."

On Thursday night, Dave and KFAI will celebrate with a concert/fundraiser for KFAI at Hook & Ladder, at 3010 Minnehaha Avenue, Minneapolis.

The guest roster is nothing short of amazing:  Lonnie Knight, Jack Klatt, Patty & the Buttons, Adam Kiesling, Jay Peterson, Doc, Papa John Kolstad & Bill Smith, the DitchLilies, Sherry Minnick, Dáithí Sproule and Laura MacKenzie, and more!

There'll be a "meet and greet" at 6:30 and the music will get going about 7:30. Suggested donation of at least $15 (nobody will be turned away for lack of funds) with all proceeds going to KFAI Fresh Air Community Radio.
