Victoria Blanco Shares Cross-Cultural Research and Stories

In Mexico, climate change and other economic factors are driving rural, mountain dwelling people into urban areas. Writer Victoria Blanco has been investigating this trend by interviewing indigenous people in Mexico and reflecting on their stories in her essays. Earlier this year, a small Twin Cities publisher, Coffee House Press, arranged for Blanco to serve a residency at the East Side Freedom Library in St. Paul.  There, she found paralells between the displaced people she met in Mexico, and southeast Asian immigrants re-building their lives in Minnesota. Victoria Blanco talked with KFAI’s Rico Morales, who asked about the people she studied in Mexico at a government-funded settlement optimistically called “Oasis.”
