New Griots Festival Showcases Black Artists

After the dust has settled from the Minneapolis Fringe Festival, another arts fest comes to town called the New Griots Festival August 14-16.  This festival focuses on emerging black artists and will host community classes, panel discussions, and performances at the Phoenix Theater. Among the featured artists are dancer and choreographer Darrius Strong, playwright Maxie Rockymore, ceramic artist Rock Johnsen, and more.  KFAI’s Ryan Dawes spoke with festival co-producer Jamil Jude, who hightlights some of talent included in the festival line-up and addresses strengths and trends within the local African American arts scene.
