St. Anthony Lock and Dam Closure

John Anfinson is the Superintendent of the Upper Mississippi National River and Recreation Area which includes the Minneapolis St. Anthony Lock and Dam. The long-lived dream of river commerce in Minneapolis officially ended a few weeks ago due to the closure of the St. Anthony Lock and Dam. By next spring, the last barge or pleasure boat will take a 49-foot vertical ride in the concrete channel, exit through the mighty gates and the lock will close forever to river traffic. Officials think the extraordinary measure will keep invasive carp from swimming upstream and muscling out our beloved local fishes. KFAI's Rico Morales spoke with Anfinson about this historic change.
