Author Weighs The Price Of Oil

When buying gas for your car, you tend to get a sense for the price of oil.  We all know when it rises and falls and many of us have an understanding of the environmental cost of burning oil too.

But what does it cost, financially, emotionally and socially, to inherit oil?

Lisa Westberg Peters is a journalist, poet, a science writer and a children’s book author.  She is also a daughter and a granddaughter who will one day inherit land that contains oil wells that have recently become quite productive due to the controversial practice of hydraulic fracturing, or fracking.

Peters new book is called “Fractured Land: The Price of Inheriting Oil.”

Peters will have a book signing at Common Good Books on Snelling at Grand in St. Paul at 7pm on Thursday, October 9, 2014.

She talked to KFAI’s Jim Rudolf, who asked her about the conversations she had with her late father about the land, the oil, and the leases that cover it.
