FUFA, FUFA, FUFA!

The sounds of FUFA, FUFA, FUFA could be heard throughout KFAI over the past few months from volunteers and staff, as the Freshen Up Fresh Air (FUFA) Committee worked to “freshen up” the station. Committee volunteers did everything from planning color schemes, selecting floor tiles, painting walls and doors, acquiring hand dryers (at wholesale), installing donated mirrors, moving furniture, to relocating a water fountain to make the kitchen more accessible. To show our appreciation, KFAI held an open house on August 28th where we recognized the FUFA Committee and other volunteers who worked on this important project.

Members of the FUFA Committee included: Debbie Gonsioroski, Susan Gray, Pat Hengemuhle, Nancy Sartor, Nancy Skalkos and Patti Walsh. Other volunteers who helped paint and plaster included Robert Easley, Chris Smith and Jumondeh Tweh. A special thanks to volunteer Chris Elpers, owner of Chris Elpers Carpentry, who laid the restroom floor tiles, trimmed doors, built kitchen cabinets and installed a new kitchen countertop. Also, a special thanks to volunteer Steve Isadore who moved and connected the water fountain, installed restroom faucets and a kitchen light, removed an old TV and hung numerous pictures.

We are also indebted to Elsa’s House of Sleep for providing furniture in trade, which was arranged by volunteer Lennie Chism. I was moved by the volunteers’ efforts and pleased to donate chairs for the Green Room and photography for the entryway.

Thanks to our volunteers for their hard work to “freshen up” Fresh Air!
