Kinshasha talked with Minneapolis resident Erica Rivera about her new book, “INSATIABLE”: A Young Mother’s Struggle with Anorexia.
“Insatiable” examines the relationship between mothers, daughters and food. In a nation obsessed with diets, yet growing more obese by the year, Erica asks the question: what is it we’re really hungry for?
At the peak of her disease, Erica no longer menstruated. She saw spots when she stood up. Her lower legs were covered in bruises and she felt comatose. Yet it wasn’t until her little daughters began to imitate her behavior around food that Erica began the climb back to health, through therapy and writing.
Tonight’s program is dedicated to Georgette, the founder of Bonjour Minnesota, whose birthday would have been October 10. We are playing music by artists that she loved or that she interviewed for the program.
