Music

On Sunday, August 22, in Chile, 17 days after a tunnel collapsed, 33 miners, all alive and sound, were located through a probe, 2,200 feet below ground. When audio communication was finally established, their first question was about the wellbeing of a group of fellow miners that were on their way out when the tunnel collapsed. In celebration of their amazing survival and their spirit and solidarity, the first 1.5 hours of this program are dedicated to songs on and about miners, from Latin America and several other countries. The last ½ hour is dedicated to the extraordinary Mexican writer Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz.

8/26 in a nutshell…
All oldies the first hour, except for bumpers_ a set bursting with the sounds of Derrick Morgan, Lee Perry, the Mighty Vikings, Jack Sparrow, some outfit called The Beans, and more! Then Sherwood B. Funn indulges his vibraholic side with shots of Kurt Weil, Emil Richards (in the Paul Horn Quintet) and whoever that cat is on Tk. 10 of the Lucy Woodward album! The 4@4 salutes The Ska Parade, and Betka Stankova sings about her Libi Bob. Then it’s Tarzan, a bald guy, dolphins, Bo Evil and Tamio Okuda with TSPO blowing up the rest of the show. Boom!
