Diane and Allan brought A Hawk and a Hacksaw, Tres Chicas, and played Forro in the Dark…just some of the artists they saw up in Winnepeg. We also heard new music from Eliza Gilkyson, the Hold Steady, and another creative project from half of Roma di Luna: Crescent Moon is in Big Trouble—a pre-cursor to the show Saturday at the Nomad West Bank Music Festival…and the return of Traditional Methods!
Today we listened to part of a concert by local treasure, Nirmala Rajasekar. Nirmala played the South Indian vina. She was accompanied on Mrdangam by Srinivasan, and on Ghatam by Balaji. The concert was record at Hosmer Public Library. Thanks to recording engineer, Mario Vano.
During the second hour we hear an interview and live music by local group, Orange Mighty Trio. We also heard music from Argentine accordionist, Chango Spasuik (live recording), music from Ecuador by Jatun Cayambe (Seeds), a live track from Irish great, Paddy O’Brien, and we finished with a track from the latest release from Dark, Dark, Dark.
During the first hour, we celebrated the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Sons Of The Pioneers along with the 100th birthdays of Bob Nolan (April 1st) and Tim Spencer (July 13th). During the 2nd hour, our special guest was Kent from Hillbilly Rescue Team. Thanks to Ron Jean (Radio Rumpus Room), Dick Himes and Hillbilly Rescue Team for their music donations to the show.
