Lots of folks are into vinyl these days. Some people are even making mix tapes again. But if you really want to embrace obscure, seemingly dead media, there’s no better way to do it than to buy 78 rpm records. This documentary takes listeners inside the rarefied world of 78 record enthusiasts, including Greg Carr, former KFAI “Dig Out the Roots” DJ, and Scott Holthus, owner of Vintage Music Company in Minneapolis. Holthus owns hundreds of thousands of 78 records and he refurbishes the machines that plays them.

Summer rolls on with another show filled with new dub. Although it came out late in 2010, tonight was the debut of Bill Laswell’s latest Method of Defiance album Jahbulon. Another great new release was the Digital Showcase from U-Rie and Neblina Sound. Also new tonight: Ghosts Outside from Steve Mason Dennis Bovell, plus new stuff from Bassnectar Seth Drake, Alpha Steppa, Grace Jones, Mista Majah P, Roots of Rebellion, and more… On top of this was half of a special Properly Chilled Mix done especially for Echo Beach (WLUW-FM, Chicago). Finally, Swiss introduced us to a fine Finnish outfit called The Valkyrians with their track Taikonaut Reggae, and added more cool tunes from Tsuyoshi Kawakami, Raw Vibes, The Dualers, and Burning Spear among others.
