We woke to a heavy snowfall, but Lonnie Knight:http://www.lonnieknight.com and Eddie Jeff Cahill made it in, anyway, which is very much to their credit! We could have used the whole show to hear stories of their adventures in guitar, songwriting, and the West Bank scene, but we only had a chunk of th 8:00 hour. We also heard new music from Susan Tedeschi and Rosalie Sorrels this morning.
Today we began with Slovak singer Sui Vesan (world village), followed by music from Uzbekistan (Playasound), and then the great Finnish accordionist, Maria Kalaniemi from her Bellow Poetry (allula) and then Greek Rembetika singer Roza Eskenazi (rounder), then Sufi music from Tunisia (Institu du Monde Arabe), then a track from Nepal (Buda), and then a few live tracks from Irish accordionist, John Williams and local guitarist, Dean Magraw, then music from North Sumatra by Suarasama, finishing out the first hour with music of the Moroccan Berbers (AAA).
During the second hour we had in studio guest Kristen Froebel of the Brass Messengers and we listened to a few tracks from their new recording. That was followed by a Turkish track from the EMI Archive (honest Jons records), then Azerbaijani, Edalat Nasibov from his Art of the Saz (Ocora), then Nykleharpa music from Peter Hedlund (Tongang), then music from the German group Ougenweide (Bear), and the hour was finished off with Ronan Browne and Peter O’Loughlin (Cladag).
