Angie Pykonen of KFAI’s “In Your Ear” hung out with me on this New Year’s Day show. Music by the likes of T Rex, Sugar & Shake, Ben Sidran, Papa Lightfoot, Mothers of Invention, Lindi Ortega, Jack White, Mink Deville, Zak Smith, Stones, and Lipbone Redding. In other words, we were Freewheelin’ all over the board. Click “Episode Details” to see the full playlist. You may also link into the archive of the show from there.

Time to get new calendars, cherish the old and welcome the unknown ! Happy New Year — to all, yet it was dampened by a large fire on the West Bank burning up Cedar Ave. during the program.

Within a couple hours of the ball dropping in Times Square, Dr. StrangeDub & DJ Baby Swiss were ringing in the new year in a dubwise stylee… Starting things off with the best version of “Auld Lang Syne” ever: the “Auld Lang Syne/Slaves Lament” masterpiece from Ghetto Priest. Followed this with the reggae instrumental version from The Drastics, and then the wigged-out “cosmic” version from Eban Schletter. A couple more versions of “Auld Lang Syne” in the program, plus a few more seasonal tunes – including the great “What a Wonderful World” from Louis Armstrong (as remixed by the Orb), plus Dennis “Blackbeard” Bovell’s cool a capella version. But only going so far in the seasonal mode… We also filled the show with more great sounds from Dubblestandart (from the excellent “Woman in Dub” album), Gentleman’s Dub Club, Rootz Underground, Dub Gabriel ft. U-Roy, Josh Heinrichs & Friends, Serengety, Capital Letters, Lee Scratch Perry, Rico, E.R.S., Kukan Dub Lagan, Dub Architect/Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad, Ticklah, and much more…
