What a worldwide, World Cup kind of program tonight! Contemporary Funk Soul including two brand new singles feat Australian singer Roxie Ray. Also new Sharon Jones, Orgone, Jazz Juice, Hot 8 Brass Band, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, Kings Go Forth, JC Brooks. Second half is funky 45s through through and a dedication to the late Gary Shider, better known as the diaper-clad guitarist in the P-Funk camp…
During the first hour we listened to a concert by local guitarist, Tony Hauser. We heard Flamenco as well as Brazilian music. The concert was recorded at the Hosmer Library in February of 2009 by Mario Vano and Dan Rein
The first ½ hour has the theme “fathers and fatherhood”. The second ½ hour honors the memory of two great and essential voices that left us within the last couple of days: José Saramago, from Portugal, and Carlos Monsiváis, from Mexico. The last 12 minutes of the program include the reading of a short story by Juan Rulfo: “No oyes ladrar los perros”.
