We heard new music from Cafe Tacuba, Levon Helm, and Becky Schlegel this morning. I also mentioned the benefit for Utah Phillips. Did you know Utah Phillips has a heart-respiratory disease that’s taking him off the road and out of performing? There’s a benefit to help with medical costs Saturday, December 15th, at the Eagles Club starting at 6pm. Charlie Parr, Pop Wagner, Phil Heywood, Peter Lang, Papa John, Dakota Dave Hull, Mary Dushane…the list is long of the folks who will be down there to rally support. Utah has a special connection to Mpls through The Sorry Muthas, so you know it’s going to be a fun time Saturday night.
During the first hour we listened to a fine concert by the Swedish group, Hogmarkarna (recorded by Dick Rees). In the second hour we heard music from a new release on the Smithsonian label from their Music of Central Asia series, we listened to a track from volume 4 the Bardic Divas, a track from Kazakhistan, then a track from Irish accordionist, Josephine Marsh(Tara), then a track from the new release from Taraf de Haidouks(Crammed) with a track from Bela Bartok, followed music from the Klezmatics (Rounder), Music from local musician, Laura MacKenzie (own label), fiddle music from Greece(Raw Fiddle-Rounder), local group, Boiled in Lead (Demo), Flamenco singer, Miguel Poveda (Harmonia Mundi), Retrograss music form David Grisman, John Hartford, and Mike Seeger (Acoustic Disc), and Jewish music from Uganda (Smithsonian)
