Once again we camped out at the Dub Club Tiki Bar for the annual “Echo Beach” dog days of summer special. This is a bit different kind of Echo Chamber — as we actually played some rock ‘n roll: that twangy, instrumental surf rock (from the likes of the Ventures and the Del-Tones). Then, once the martinis were well shaken, we got into some soul and funky R&B. Things were really cookin’ and the Tiki Bar was heavy with kali smoke. So we cooled things down with a variety of lounge, world, and swanky jazz…and a bit of electro dub.
It’s got to be funky! Get down like James Brown with some funky grooves that’ll have you saying sho’ right!. Radio Pocho brings the heat and gives us a taste of what to expect this Friday as they host Blow Jam: A Funk Eruption at Honey Bar in Northeast Minneapolis (10pm-2am).
Blended with some Rock Soul this show will have you jammin by the river with the homies y las chavas. Also DJ Ren is back from out of town…did he change?
Thanks to local songwriter John Wills:http://www.myspace.com/johnwillsmusic for stopping by at 11am. His new album, Rose, will be celebrated with a party at the 331 Club September 11th. We also heard new music from Isobel Campbell Mark Lanegan, The Pistol Whippin’ Party Penguins, and more!
