Two excellent new releases debuted in the Echo Chamber tonight: Horace Andy’s “Serious Times” (minor7flat5) and Dubmatix’s “System Shakedown” (Renegade Media). Also, the fine compilation “Dub Rising Vol. 1” from the Kingdub.com site (available for free), Thievery Corp.‘s new retrospective “It Takes a Thief”, and some new dubs from Vibration Lab. And, though we’ve featured excerpts from it for months, tonight we finally had the entire excellent “Revelation Congo” (Jah Urban Sound /Springline) album from The Manor.
In this episode of Radio Pocho, we highlight some of the mid-1960s rock bands to come out of Los Angeles, including Frank Zappa’s Mothers of Invention, The Doors, Love, and Chicano East L.A. bands, The Premiers and The Romancers.
Thanks to Todd Melby for sharing some of the great stories and live music you can find at www.ampers.org:http://www.ampers.org. Great way to keep up with local music’s rising stars, and established talents. Also heard new music this morning from Azure Ray, Duke Robillard, Gold Motel, and a couple tracks from the new Putumayo Tribute to a Reggae Legend (Bob Marley).
