Jackson Buck’s “Jackson’s Juke Joint” is throwing a holiday party:

Javier & the Innocent Sons is a potent quartet from Minneapolis that plays timeless barrel-
house roots music, projected from the contemporary perspective of songwriter Javier Matos.

Javier grew up listening to the early blues patriarchs on his father’s record player with his ears
glued to the speakers. This music struck him to the core, and blues has been his passion ever
since. Javier was discovered by Storyville Records in Anchorage, AK and in May of 2000, he
released his debut record worldwide entitled “Comin’ Home” under the stage name Jake Matson.

Javier later moved to Los Angeles and formed the Blue Shadows, who were voted best blues band by the L.A. City Rock News and featured on the cover of Billboard Magazine in August 2002. After a 20 year career took him from coast to coast, he settled in Minneapolis and formed The Innocent Sons with Grant Wibben on upright bass, and Twin Cities music veterans Dan Schwalbe and Dave Larson on guitar and drums respectively.

Alex “Crankshaft” Larson was introduced to a wide variety of music as a pup. He’s been involved in many projects, including a band he started with his brother in 2001 called The Mojo Spleens. In April 2008, while self-employed as a contractor, he started practicing as a one-man band and was playing shows two months later. He developed his own “pork neck” style along the way—a sound heavily rooted in rock ‘n’ roll, blues, country, swing, and surf. In 2010, backed with the business skills he developed running a construction company and the strong DIY ethics he learned from his connection to the underground punk scene, Crankshaft decided to hang up his hammer for good so he could focus on writing and performing music. Since then he’s been earning a living playing as both a traditional one-man band, Crankshaft, and as the leader of his trio, Crankshaft and the Gear Grinders.
