Mendelssohn: Saint Paul

Saturday, November 15, 2014 - 7:30pm

Come hear the dramatic story of the patron saint of Minnesota’s capital city, Saint Paul, performed by the Oratorio Society of Minnesota. The first of Mendelssohn’s oratorios, completed in 1835, Saint Paul was one of the most popular pieces of the 19th century. Its three principal themes are the martyrdom of Saint Stephen, the conversion of Saul to Paul, and the apostle’s subsequent career. Now, this monumental masterwork is rarely performed. Baritone Philip Zawisza and the University of Minnesota University Singers join the 80-member Oratorio Society chorus and a professional orchestra for this unforgettable evening of music.
