Lundi Gras is the Monday before Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday) in New Orleans. VSA Minnesota, the state organization on arts and disability, is putting a Minnesota spin on the day in a Loondi Gras mash-up with New Orleans carnival culture. Our annual fund-raiser is at Gaviidae Common on the fifth floor of its atrium, graced by a huge loon and waterfall, at 651 Nicollet Mall in downtown Minneapolis. Louisiana-influenced and Minnesota-created foods will include Crawfish Hotdish, Red Beans & Rice with Spam, King Cake in Bundt pans, Gumbo, Pra-loons and more. Performers include Jack Brass Band, Scott Joplin pianist James Shaw, Chicks on Sticks, a fortune-teller and other street performers. Costume contest, mask-making, face-painting, dancing, impromptu “second-line” parades and a silent auction. Proceeds benefit the nonprofit organization's mission to create a community where people with disabilities learn through, participate in and access the arts. Tickets: $40 advance ($25 students and people on limited incomes), $50 at the door. Call 612-332-3888 or go to http://www.vsamn.org. Let the good time roll – Laissez les bon temps rouler – you betcha!
