Hubbs Children's Literature Conference

Kwame Alexander
Date:
Saturday, February 20, 2016 - 8:30am to 3:00pm

The Hubbs Children’s Literature Conference is designed for anyone interested in encouraging the use of quality children’s literature in homes, schools, and the community. The conference offers a chance to share information and learn how to better meet the education needs of youth. Breakout sessions provide an informal opportunity for attendees to ask questions of the authors and engage them in discussion about their work, creative process, and book signing. Red Balloon Bookshop will be available onsite to sell children’s books.

The 2016 featured speakers are Kwame Alexander, John Newbery Medal award winning author of The Crossover, and Acoustic Rooster and his Barnyard Band; and Minnesota native Catherine Thimmesh, the Sibert Medal-winning author of Team Moon, and Scaly Spotted Feathered Frilled.

Additional breakout sessions will be provided by:
• Donna Nix, Children’s Literature and Curriculum Librarian, Charles J. Keffer Library, University of St. Thomas
• Patti Frazee, author, copy editor, and publishing consultant
• Laura Given, school librarian and 2016 Caldecott Committee member
• Laura Purdie Salas, author of the Can Be series
