KFAI is very happy to sponsor The Cedar's 25th Anniversary Dance Party, at the Cedar Cultural Center on Saturday, August 23.
It’s a night of regional world music goodness, ticket giveaways and other fun. Featured acts are Making Movies (Kansas City, MO), De La Buena (Milwaukee, WI), and Worldwide Discotheque (Minneapolis, MN).
Built upon a heavy foundation of Afro-Latino rhythms, Making Movies has created a bi-lingual, psychedelic re-envisioning of the Latin American “son.”
Employing jazz harmonic sensibility and a deep-seated love of diverse cultures, De La Buena explores the textures and rhythms of Latin music of the Americas with roots planted firmly in African Diasporic traditions.
Worldwide Discotheque is an all-vinyl International Funk Party held monthly in Minneapolis. DJ's Steely Dan McAllister & Brian Engel control the speakers with vintage sounds from the dancehalls of Africa, South America, the Caribbean, and beyond.
As a thank you to all who have kept The Cedar going through the past 25 seasons, and with help from Target, this event is free and open to all!
Grand Prize: One lucky winner will go home from this event with the first ever Cedar Passport! The Cedar will be selecting one random winner (must be present to win) during the course of the evening. The Cedar Passport winner will gain free access for themselves and a +1 to all on-site Cedar events in the 26th Season. (Certain restrictions will apply, non-transferable, no cash value.).
