6/30/2011 Rocket Ship Ska Trip

6/30 in a nutshell...

Exodus, the GotchaSKAvered Ska Cover-of-the-Month Club selection for June (this week the dub version by week 1's Sideburns from their Exodus album btw) ties in quite nicely with the 4(+1)@4 theme of Travel and Destinations, with entries from TC's own Umbrella Bed, Kagoshima's Authentic Rocksteady Traditional Ska practitioners ARTS, Tokyo's Ska Paradise Orchestra and more. Sherwood was pouring mostly double-shots in the Voovie Doo, starting off with Shiina Ringo and the brand-spankin' new Dai Hakken (Great Discovery) from her firecracker Tokyo Jihen outfit (making their big-band debut in cahoots with anime and occasional Godzilla soundtrack guy Takayuki Hattori wielding the baton)... "Fly Me to Heaven", already a single, is now Dai Hakken's 13th track! Leading into all this was a nicely all-over-the-map ska oldies hour delivered by the Cap'n and Cozy. Fast forward to The End (which happens here each week... ;^)) and the on-air singing debut of our regular Takeaway countdowner Cy Knopf (signing off!) ( ...Cy-Kning Opf???) ("Booooo...!")
